How cooking weight to volume conversion works

Converting weight (mass) to volume depends directly on the **density** of the specific ingredient. The formula is:

\[\text{Volume} = \frac{\text{Mass}}{\text{Density}}\]

Because flour is light and powdery, one cup of flour weighs about 120 grams. However, one cup of water weighs exactly 236.6 grams. This calculator uses ingredient-specific density factors to perform precise conversions:

  • **Water:** Density = 1.00 g/ml
  • **All-Purpose Flour:** Density = 0.53 g/ml
  • **Granulated White Sugar:** Density = 0.84 g/ml
  • **Whole Milk:** Density = 1.03 g/ml
  • **Butter:** Density = 0.911 g/ml
